An integral part to the water bombers fire fighting is the Bird Dog, air attack plane. This is a smaller aircraft that flies above the water bombers and coordinates the plan of attack on the fire. The Bird Dog has contact with the water bombers and ground crews to help direct where to drop the water, first making sure that the area is clear of personnel. The Bird Dog will also assess the accuracy of the drop and determine where to drop water next. |
