The kids come home for Christmas 1997

Snow

Snow!!!

In fact, they had to come home to help shovel. What with our lumbago and all, the parents were unable to handle it all. Here you see Nick shoveling a path to the outhouse. Note Mike's shovel. Bent in half from shoveling so much snow. No, really.
What?

Shoveling

The next day, they were still shoveling. Liz made sandwiches and brought them hot chocolate every few hours. At night, she sat in the window and shone a flashlight out, just to make sure they weren't lost and to help them see where to shovel next. While they shoveled, they developed a much closer personal relationship with each and acknowledged how much they value each other as people. Then they had a burping contest.

Sundog

The drive back to school was a little wild!

Why do we live here, you ask? That is an excellent question. These are the conditions we encountered on the drive south between Minneapolis and Ames. But once we reached the Iowa border, the snow disappeared at the No-Snow Line of Demarcation. Apparently, Iowa does not allow this sort of crap.
Jennie

Lindsay's friend Jennifer

This is Lindsay, with her little friend Jen. Don't they look happy? Actually, they are freezing to death. Plus, what you can't see is that Jen's boyfriend is hiding behind her in bed, trying to make himself flat like a piece of paper so the parents can't see. But we're not fooled. Don't even think for one minute that we don't know EXACTLY what's going on.
